An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Jim Gildea, said illegal parking “creates real hazards for pedestrians, wheelchair users, cyclists and motorists” and urged the public to park considerately.

The campaign includes lived experiences from local residents, An Garda Síochána, dlr Traffic Wardens and Council staff. Chief Executive Frank Curran emphasised the need for “education, enforcement and collaboration” to improve safety and accessibility.

dlr staff member Duncan Byrne describes having to backtrack long distances or risk falling from his wheelchair when cars block footpaths, while Disability Consultation Group member Aoife McCoy Moran highlights how misuse of disabled bays prevents wheelchair access.

Key message: park responsibly, keep footpaths clear and protect accessibility for all.
