Children in Hopsital Ireland (CHI) is a charitable organisation founded in 1970 with a mission to ensure that all children are cared for appropriately and with respect in Hospital.

Our principle activity is recruiting, interviewing, training, Garda vetting and placing hundreds of volunteers annuallyl to play with sick children daily in hospitals nationwide.

CHI campaigns for the rights of sick children and their parents and is instrumental in effecting change through education and advocacy for the needs of the hospitalised child.

  • each year in Ireland there are, on average, over 270,000 hospital visits by children
  • For over 100,000 this means an average stay of three nights
  • Every year, 75,000 child inpatients are under 4 years of age and almost all are admitted through A&E - an unexpected and unplanned visit.
